Apocalypto....... A Review...

Ok, another Mel Gibson film, so what?

well this was good, not like passion of the Christ, though...

this was a film based on some history and nearly half of the facts are right and half wrong...

The film begins with these lines..

A great civilization is not conquered from without until it is destroyed from within.     "

—W. Durant

Well to say the truth (considering this as a film and not something which depicts history sequences or anything like that.  Consider this just as a story ok..) Mel Gibson has done a fantastic thing in making this film.  The survival, the chase ( which i think) is the highlight of the movie and also the interesting part of the movie.  when the chase ends the movie is just 5 min's from ending..  The acting is good, and story ( i remind u, this i consider as just a story and not a historical depiction of the Mayan civilization) is good.

you got to see the acting.  When Flint Sky(the hero's father), ( don't know the real name.  do a Google or check wikipedia) asks his son not to be afraid when he is executed in front of his son jaguar paw(the hero).  and also the scene when the seven (jaguar paw's wife) and turtles run ( jaguar paw's son) are left trapped in a small pit and a raider goes near it  to check his dead colleague.  ya got to see their expressions..  The human sacrifice scene and the scene when Jaguar Paw confronts Zero Wolf, the waterfall jump, everything is so beautiful...

Particularly the chase requires a special mention, coz the forest is the location where this happens (for the matter the entire film takes place in the forest..)  just keeps you at the edge of the seat...

A must see if u wanna see it just as a movie and nothing else....

The depiction of the Mayans is a bit too awe... i mean it doesn't seem real..  the human sacrifice practice, yes it existed in the civilization, but showing them as people obsessed with that practice it a bit too much....  Also it is shown as though the solar eclipse was unexpected,  but you see, the Mayans were very good in astrology and should have been expecting a eclipse instead of being surprised to see it happen, as depicted in the film...

well all said,  don't see this movie to learn about Mayan civilization..., don't see to believe that Mayans were like that... or for the matter of fact even the timing of the period when the movie takes place..   see it for Mel Gibson, see it for the acting, see it for story... see it for the human's clash.. human's behavior blah blah!!!..........
