I am going to dare to dream once more, after everything i had previously dreamed had been shattered. Just two dreams. of which i have no control of. I can't even control the environment to get the desired for these two. I am not gonna write down any details. 6 weeks, is the time frame. These two dreams will decide will i dream again, or should i stop dreaming and start to listen to others.
I am keeping my fingers crossed. Please pray for me.
So, no more updates for the next 6 weeks, or atleast till i get something to rant about.
yours
dreamer!

This last week was kinda crazy..... I still am wondering. Though there were a few things which were interesting.
There was this Road Corner Meeting (Theru munai Kootam) that some one from BJP held in the corner of St. Thomas Mount Bus stand opposite the railway station. There were none there in the audience. [Ok if you can count the 5 whites(who most probably would have some party people) who were sitting.] The meeting was about the Rising Prices of essential things. Well, seems atleast they are talking about it. ( I was walking across from the station to my house). The speaker in the midst of his speech, stated one reason for the increase in prices. I just couldn't think but get angry over this guy. He told about a government school in his place (must be his constituency or the constituency to which he belongs, i think)... The school boasted of 6 teachers and 4 students. Now because the government has alloted 6 teachers to the school which has only 4 students, the government will have to pay the salary to the 6 teachers. Which goes from the tax payers money. I couldn't understand where this was leading. His Thought was that if they(government) do like his then why will the price of the things not increase.
God, Please help this country. Government is taking such steps to increase literacy among the masses and this guy is linking this with increasing prices. i would just like to know, what is he doing here instead of asking the kids in places near the school to go to school and attend classes. Or is the school situated in such a place with only 4 people of school going age?!! (i would like to visit this place if has only 4 people of school going age).
I don't get it. Is BJP doing it just register that they to are doing something, or are they really doing something, and this guy is putting them in the wrong light...........

Linux on Desktop
I have been using Linux since the days of mandrake 9. And i attempted a complete switch with the first Fedora Core, and achieved it with Fedora Core 5. But i still ran Windows, because of my work place. So once i bought a laptop, the first thing i did was to remove windows once and for all from the desktop pc in my house. I went with Mandriva 2008 for the home desktop, Initially people in my house, especially my dad was not comfortable with the switch, He has never used a computer other than the one at his workplace. He was accustomed to Internet Explorer and MS Outlook there.
The first switch was from Internet Explorer to Firefox. It seemed to him like a huge shock, that IE is not available. But gradually he started to use Fx. Now he is comfortable using it. Though he is finding it difficult to adjust to the tabbed interface, instead of switching from the taskbar.
Next it was Excel and Word. Two other things which he was using in his workplace. He was comfortable with Calc of OpenOffice, since he had used it in the home system back in 2007. But he did not know what to do with word. Then i introduced him to OpenOffice Writer. Now he is using it for his documents, he has never asked for any help in that.
Now he is pretty much using the desktop on his own. Even when i went on to update Mandriva2009 to Mandriva 2009.1 and it broke lightly he did not panic at having to look at a different screen, He had to Use IceWM instead of the default KDE4. He was at home. (Though i fixed it for him later).
The only complaint from him is that the computer is slow. The poor thing has only 256 MB of ram and it has been there for the past 5 years.
Yesterday, i happened to read one of the articles which i was pointed to in twitter. It was titled The Market has rejected Linux desktops...
I was left thinking, i have heard the line this is the year of linux desktop or something every year. But it is still not there.. What Jason Hiner points out seems to be right... But,..
Lets leave out Google Chrome OS out of this. I am not here to talk about it's linux base or anything related to Chrome.
There are four points, four simple points which he is pointing out, (as he says, there are many more, but lets tackle those four points here first.).
It's still too much of a pain:
i would like Mr Hiner to try to install the modem that i have in Windows XP, Vista or even in Windows 7. Let him give it a try. Windows is not the ultimate, and even mac will have to face it in some cases. It doesn't seem to recognize the wireless and webcam in my laptop. And i have given hope to make it work. Every OS has its own problems. The reason for this one is that, the vendors do not take up to provide drivers for the different os's or provide the specification so that someone can build a driver for it. So do not blame Linux for making pluggin devices a pain.
The divide and fail strategy:
It is not as you think. Linux is basically about choices, Each distro has its own audience. You just can't pull out Ubuntu Studio and use it as a desktop. It is made for audio / video professional. Well we do have Windows Home, Professional, Business, Ultimate, yada, yada, yada. nobody talks about, Whenever someone mentions Windows XP, 90% it is thought about as professional edition and not home or anyother flavour. But does a home user need Windows XP Professional. I don't think so. does my dad need a Windows XP professional. No Windows Home would do. but why do they try to push professional when trying to buy one, is anybody's guess. So it is again at the hands of vendors who have to be educated to allow them to help the customer to make a good decision. Or the users have to be educated. Try saying them that Home costs 3000 bucks and professional costs 7000 bucks, then they will try to know about different flavours of windows and get confused leading to divide and fail in windows too.
Not enough innovation:
I don't think i can talk about this as i don't much understand the things that are being talked here.
Businesses want someone to blame
Seems like he himself points out the answer. The leaders are afraid that the switch might cause a black mark or something of that sort on them if it backfires at some level. But i don't think anyone would make the shift on a large scale. They would make a phased shift. maybe some 5% of a department would switch to it and start using it. if all goes well, then everyone can shift.
Incompatible software?!! this is puzzling, Coz anyone planning for a switch would have considered this before making a switch. If this was the case, then i will have to say that it really is a mistake on the part of the IT leader for not researching and planning the shift properly.
As for pointing fingers to esacape, If you get support for your linux flavour from its corresponding vendor, unless you went for the free version, in which case you have to ask for support from your consultant, who helped you migrate, or the community.
All said, There are some more too. Like one of the users had said in the comments section, There are not enough softwares to make it move mainstream. His example was AutoCAD. Well, this is also a point to consider. Software makers say they are ready to put the resources to go ahead and get it working in Linux, if they can show the market (A manager in my workplace had said this to me). And People who want to make the switch say they will when the software is available. Well as he says it is same as chicken or egg problem.

Reg: Transport arranged for me on Wednesday night.
Dear xxxxxxxx,
Thanks for the Transportation which was arranged for me on Wednesday[11-11-2009] night. It was a comfortable journey home that i couldn't feel my right hand when i was sleeping.
I just had to walk slightly more than one KM before i could hire a auto, in which i had to share the driver seat with one another person other than the driver. And then i had to walk another half hour to home. It was a wonderful walk which i am having after a long time after college. Thanks for creating this wonderful opportunity for me to enjoy the midnight walk.
I came to know that you and a few other people were too worried that i didn't report to work in the morning and again were also worried that i did not call up even after evening to inform that i will not be coming to office. I woke up only by 3 in the evening, and Since i hadn't eaten for around more than 24 hours, i collapsed on the kitchen floor and slept on for another 2 hours before my mom came and woke me. Sorry i didn't inform you any time sooner that this.
It is heart warming to know that there are people who care about me even though i am a tiny little footnote on your epic organization. I don't know what i can do to repay the kindness and love that is being showered on me.
Regards
Anbarasan
PS: I know. I know, I am Guilty unless and until proven otherwise. You will have too many questions. Some of which i have tried to guess and answer below.
1. What happened?
I was asked to transfer the database from development machine to the staging machine and then recreate the setup over there, and start Fire Rules, inform and leave. Mr.xxxx got in touch with Miss/Mrs yyyyy and got permission for me to stay till later hours for that day. And Mr.zzzz gave me the number of travels and asked to call them to book a cab.
I was not able to determine the amount of time it would take to finish the job. So i did not book the cab in the evening itself. By 2130 hours i had a hunch that i should be able to finish the transfer by around 2330 hours and if i could push the machines to their top i could get the extraction and restoration and starting the process, finished by around 0030 hours and leave.
So i called up travels at around 2145 hours. They informed at around 2200 hours that all their drivers have gone, and asked me to contact another travels. So i called back to Mr.xxxx, who gave me the number of Mr.zzzz and asked me to contact him. Mr.zzzz was a bit slightly angry (i couldn't find a suitable word other than this. please bear with me for my poor english knowledge) with me for not booking the cab by 1930 hours itself. He asked me to contact the security in the reception and get some numbers and book a cab.
The guys at the reception were really helpful. I have to say this. coz when the power went out in the socket at around 2100 hours they got the electrician to fix it. and they got the guys to light up the place, when the person had switched off the lights when i had gone to the restroom. They looked around and got me two phone numbers, in both there was no answer.
It was 2230 hours by then, i decided it would be hopeless to worry about these things or to disturb you people so late, so i decided to work on the user manual which i had planned to do the next day. and finish the work and go home on my own.
2. Why didn't you inform us?
I was asked to call the travels and arrange it myself. What is the point in complaining, when i had failed to book the cab at 1930 hours itself....
3. Why didn't you book the cab by 1930 hours in the evening itself?
Like i said i was not able to estimate the time required for me to finish the work. So i delayed the booking of the cab.
4. Why weren't you able to estimate the time required?
The network was too fast, the machine was too responsive and i was incompetent to make the judgement...

Ok, Before any of you could start ranting on the comments, I am writing this here, because i did not want to write to them. I just want to rant somewhere, so i am writing it here. Nothing is gonna change because i am going to complain. I have been here quiet sometime to know that.

Depressed!!!!!
Well, I don't know, may be that is true. But... I don't know. I haven't been able to think for the whole week, The job which should have taken only say may be about 4 hours or so is still not done yet. I am not able to do it.... I don't know why, i know what i have to do. I exactly know what i have to type and where i have to. and what i have to configure. Yet i am not able to do it. and a week has gone.
Why is this happening. I felt a little suicidal today. Am i getting that bad. I don't know why i did it, i set my facebook status as i want to disappear. I can't understand what is happening. Am i getting crazy or what?
Tried to talk to my child, She was a lill busy, couldn't talk to her. I don't know if it is ok to disturb her, with all these. ish is in Hospital, today he was to undergo angio test at malar hospital today. I promised i would come, But i couldn't get myself to go. I am not able to get myself up to go anywhere. I have been struggling to go to office this week. But that doesn't mean i do not like the job or something. I love this job. But, i couldn't make me go to office on thursday.
Something is not right with me, and i just can't figure out what it is.....
Somebody help me....
Well one more thing, i have created a new blog. This time i went to try wordpress. I am going to keep the new blog for techie posts or something like notes to me and stuff like that. Those posts i will not post here. so there you go.....

Microsoft Silverlight & Linux.......
It has been a long time since i wrote. Well it has been really a long time, stuck in the worst city Bangalore, then moving back. Being in there in certain things. Having a fifteen minutes of fame. Everything was there. I did miss writing here in blogger. Though there was twitter to write to, it is not fun. But a great way to say out ideas short and sweet.
Well, after a long time, and trying to figure a way out to make Linux my main os at work, i succeded last week... Yes! DimensioN Studio 2.4 started to work in linux, it took a little hard work to figure out which files were missing. With a little more help from winetricks, i did get it to work properly via wine. It was so much fun doing it. I was just happy that i need not have to move into windows anymore.
Then i just thought of giving the new browser based cloud product of ours a try from linux. But this darn Microsoft agains comes into frustrate me. Silverlight doesn't seem to work with linux. and every attempt to make the new product work with Mono Moonlight also failed. It was frustrating to think that i have to login back to windows just to work with something which is browser based. This is not fair.....
Talk about microsoft and fairness, what am i talking? So i had to give the error messages and i was able to only hope that either mono team will release Moonlight 2.0 soon and it would be compatible with Silverlight 3.0, or our engineering team will make sure it will make changes to accomodate the moonlight too. But who knows....
The suddenly today when we were just discussing things, suddenly it turned towards the new product and linux compatibility. And My interviewer asked me why don't you try with wine or whisky and run the windows version of browser and try to make it work. This was a nice idea. Firefox 3.5.3 was up in 5 minutes, but then again Silverlight decided to play bad. Everything i tried was in vain. Nothing worked. Now i have others in the race. It's got to be me or the Engineering who should find a way out.... But if others find, that is also fine.
Why?! Why is it that at everyturn a new obstacle arises......

Securing your DimensioN Portal - enabling https
I had to do this for one of the clients. This is the procedure which i followed. It was a real headache. Got into some difficulties and then found out things and stuff. I am writing down the exact procedure which i had followed, during development time, and during the setting up of the server with a thawte certificate, and enable SSL and HTTPS. Hope this helps someone.
DimensioN is based on JBoss, So SSL on JBoss should also be the same, but i can't guarantee
I know this is ugly. i promise to clean this up and write it properly once i get some time.
DimensioN is based on JBoss, So SSL on JBoss should also be the same, but i can't guarantee
To Enable SSL in DimensioN.
For development
Step 1: keytool -genkey -alias [alias name] -keypass [password] -keyalg RSA -keystore [keystore name]
to get ssl certificate from issuing authorities.
Perform the steps to generate the key , CSR and install SSL certificate. (ref:1)
STEP 1 : keytool -genkey -keyalg RSA - alias [alias name] -keystore [keystore name] (use the password same as alias.)
STEP 2 : keytool -list -keystore [keystore name]
STEP 3 : keytool -certreq -alias [alias name] -keyalg RSA -file certreq.csr -keystore [keystore name]
STEP 4 : keytool -import -alias [alias name] -trustcacerts -file [downloaded certificate name] -keystore [keystore name]
for eg:
STEP 1 : keytool -genkey -keyalg RSA - alias tomcat -keystore dimension.keystore (use the password same as alias.)
STEP 2 : keytool -list -keystore dimension.keystore
STEP 3 : keytool -certreq -alias tomcat -keyalg RSA -file certreq.csr -keystore dimension.keystore
STEP 4 : keytool -import -alias tomcat -trustcacerts -file mysignedcert.crt -keystore dimension.keystore
Use the CSR file which is generated after step 3 to apply for the SSL certificate from the concerned authorities. apply step 4 with the file which you get back from the signing authority.
If after doing this procedure, if you still get the error that is a self signed certificate, then the certificate you have downloaded is not in PKCS#7 format.(ref:3) you will have to create a chain certificate from the one which you have. The procedure to follow in windows is as follows.(ref:2)
1. Double click on the .crt file, which you had downloaded.
2. Click on the Details Tab at the top
3. Click on 'Copy to file'
4. Click 'Next'
5. Tick the third option: "Cryptographic Message Syntax Standard - PKCS#7 Certificates (.P7B)".
also tick "Include all certificates in the certification path if possible"
6. Click 'Next'
7. Select a file name or browse to a path where you'd like to save this chained certificate.
8. Click 'Next'
9. Click 'Finish'

The Best day.....
it was different this year. May be one of the best, i am wrong, the most best day i had ever had. Though it did brought back some painful memories, which i am still trying to forget, it was still wonderful. I went to office for the class, then to my Child's house for lunch, where i also watched the movie Gangster, and then went back to office, did some work and played a good TT. Wonderful. It was not as wonderful or fantastic as some of the many days i had, but it was really a wonderful day, when i was taken back in time, to delhi and back to school days. It was wonderful. I will never forget this day.

Christmas Surprise
It was a day which was different. I don't remember when i had gone out to some one's house, just because they invited, maybe back in school/college days(i can't remember anytime other than when ish would call me to his house).....
I went to Melo's house. Me, PRO, The last king of Jharkand, Mithun Chakraborty, Mr.dot, Mumbai Indians went to his house. I can't say we had a blast, but it was nice. it was different. I don't know what to say, but it felt good.
Then came back and watched Terminator 3 - Rise of the Machines. The tamil dialogues were ok, not bad, but those words or dialogues which are the essence of Arnold's character were wasted in tamil. The I'll Be back / She'll be back and the last words of Arnold as Terminator - Asta la Vista, Baby, were rendered horribly in tamil.
And then, there was a surprise, i had a comment, a real comment i should say after a really long time. i had never been so excited about people's comments. But to be frank, this one was out of the blue. The poster, identifies himself as raghav, the superb dancer raghav who danced in Maanaada Mayilaada, who was there in Silambattam. He says thanks for noticing his efforts. I still can't believe it. Is it really you Raghav?!!!
and i created a profile in google. check it out here.

Silambattam - Simabattam...... - A review.
Well, well, a simbu movie it was in the movie of the month in office. To be frank, simbu was not at any spot in my movie lists, except for say manmathan. And the talk was, the movie was ok, and the songs great. That was the information with which i entered the movie hall in sathyam.
By Far, the worst, by simbu that i had seen till date, that is what i can say, what he is not dancing to the songs too. Is that a hip hop kinda style which you are trying to adopt in the songs dude. Never mind, you had so many things missing. not something, so many things. I ain't no one who know dancing, but you didn't have nothing to make me move.
But hold on, the flashback part was good. Simbu was great there, the song, sung by ilayaraja was superb. Prabhu was majestic. wonderful on his part. The part where he comes in like BILLA, was superb, except for the fact that, he does not have the body to carry the grace which is required for that character. But i can think of it as a spoof of billa and laugh. and to say the truth, yes it was a laugh riot at that juncture of the movie.
That song, no wait it was not one but two songs, "Vachikkava unna mattum" and "Where is the party tonight". i couldn't make why they had to interrupt the movie for these songs. i couldn't see a reason why the songs were there in the first place. You can hear the songs, but don't take the trouble to watch em. It sucks, the moves suck. especially, Where is the party tonight, the dance sucks, the video sucks.
It is just the kind of movie you would watch if you are down too much.
Watch it for Simbu's performance as Thamizh, in the second half, the other guy, i think his name is raghav, the character which kills the cows in Thamizh's house. and Prabhu.

Rain
It's been a long time since it rained cats and dogs like this. Since, Thalakona today's was the best rain which i saw in the recent times. But, that was a different experience altogether.
I couldn't get enough of the rain since i was carrying my laptop from office today. this darn thing would have become waste if it gets in the rain. Just now, i went out stood in the rain, it was dark out there. chill and the rain was cool.
WOW!!!, how much i miss those days, when i and satish would walk home from school to home in the evenings in the rain, How we rode thru the entire city during the flood causing rains of 2005 in his bike. from beach to Tambaram and then back home, all thru the small streets, coz the GST was too heavy with traffic coz of rain that day. The day when i made whole of rohit's house wet with rain water. THe hot pakoda's which we ate in the center bus stand in madipakkam, The cricket matches which we played. The infamous jump from the first floor, The whole way down it was fun. i would break everyother bone in my body, just to have all these fun again. Kidding, but it would be nice to enjoy all these again.
Today's was a start. maybe the days are coming, and i will enjoy the rain even more again. But!, who will get me those Pakodas? who can bring satish back here!

Deepavali?! or just yet another holiday!!
It was tat time of the year yesterday. The time of joy. The festival of lights, the festival to celebrate the victory of good over evil. As a kid this was the day other than my birthday i would eagerly wait for (though both would come in so close that i would not be able to enjoy both fully).... I would run around the house, visit the relatives, burst crackers. wait the whole night to be the first to burst crackers in my street. Sneaking around to steal the confectionaries and sweets. The thrill of lighting the 100 walas and 1000 walas, the joy of wearing the new clothes, to check out the next door kids what he is wearing and try to better than him. That was the deepavali which we used to enjoy.
But, I haven't bought crackers for the last 3 years(though for logical reason in 2006, what abt the last 2 years), we did not make any sweets for the last 2 years and i slept the whole day yesterday, did not visit any of the relatives or friends, leave visiting, i did not even call any one to wish happy deepavali. Man, what has become of us, why are we moving away from this fesivities. why?!!!!
Deepavali has become something like just another national holiday. I can't understand. During the rest of the year, when someone asks why you work like this day and night (that is a saying, we don't even work half the time, they are pointing.), and we say, that to be happy and be together friends and family for the festive season and yet here i am, sleeping away most of the time, coughing and covering me under sweater feeling unwell. Why can't we enjoy this day like those days of yester years. why?!!!!!!

A Hard Decision
i don't know weather i am doing it correct by writing this post. But, as the saying goes, when in doubt....
It is not everyday that some one who is up the ladder at the near top of the organization would call you for a chat.
It is not everyday that, that one person at the top of the organization, would offer a dream chance to join his elite team.
And it is not everyday that you would reject the offer and live the rest of the life as though nothing had happened.
There were not so many reasons why i said no to his offer... only a few,
- His thinking of only his solution is correct.
- Being asked to stay in Delhi.
- The rest of office's attitude.
As i have heard, it was difficult to say No. But somehow, i did......

Dom Inspector - Customizing Blogger Theme / Layout/ Template
After a long time looking at others blogs with fancy themes / layouts, today i set out to get my self one different theme, which is not there in the blogger's default layout set. Since the aim was to get something out of the bloggers default arsenal, i was just looking around for some fancy layouts. and even got thru so many which i just fell head over heels.. But, as soon as applied them, it just felt as though they were not there for my blog.
Then i decided to do something which i would normally not do. play around with the css info in the xml to fit my requirement. first i went around with a fancy theme, but i couldn't make heads or toes of it.
Since now i had my mind bent on customising a theme for me, i decided to start with a ver simple theme, a minimalistic theme which would have just a background and display. i found one, i can't remember, from where i took this.. This is the current one, which was named redplanet... I did like the base template but not the splash image which was there at the top below the title.
I started off with Bluefish to edit the xml, and get out with my customization. But somewhere down the line, i remembered kavitha's saying, something about Dom Inspector in Firefox. Since I'm using IceWeasel in Debian, which is pretty much based on Firefox and is also similar to it, i chanced upon seeing weather it has dom inspector in it. I pressed Ctrl+Shift+I and, lo behold, there appeared Dom Inspector, it was pretty much simple, working with it. Editing the theme was nearly a piece of cake with this Dom Inspector. I had seen kavitha, Sumathi, Santhosh all playing with Dom Inspector for editing / customising look and feel at work, but this is the first time i have used it Dom Inspector. It was interesting to see such a powerful tool hidden away in a browser. I already had a strong belief, as firefox is the browser for developers, and one more reason in my arsenal to drive my point home.
Try using it.

Rafa Vs Roger Wimbledon 2008.
I don't know what is happening.... They say it is raining there, and i am not able to watch the match on tv because of the CAS here.
From the net : Roger is 2 sets down, seems at last Rafa is going to win against roger, this will be a match to watch. when the rain stopped play it rafa is to server at 4-5 to roger. this is the end of Federer, and may be the beginning of the reign of Nadal.....
I pray for nadal to win. it is boring to see the swiss win always...........
Nadal please win, don't let the rain break lose your focus.........

Architect...... Solution Architect.....
hmmm, a year has gone by and i am still working in the company, this is the first time i have ever been working in the same concern for a long time............ Congratulations to me. any way, after i joined the company i met one of my friends, who asked me what are my plans, and stufff,... i was too blank to answer him., come on i have never planed anything in my life till then, even till now. Just to shut him up i had said, i would be trying to become a Solution Architect.... But some how after that it stuck up with me, for a month or so, i was going around with that thought... after some time i forgot the whole thing, and as usual was moving around with work and other stuff, Now though i have changed roles from developer to a role which includes supporting all developers with their problems and educating them about their short commings and also doing a part time Solution Architect role and also a one man research n development team. feels kinda important, ok... seems i have achieved something which i had said some time. But i have to hold on to my horses..... Coz things have started to happen , the way i wanted them to happen. Kewl ain't it, but the problem is, they are happening at a pace which i will not able to cope with, either i will fall, or it will be the worst..... I don't know. for know i am enjoying whatever i am doing.... I think i will soon go up one more step, coz you can always go up only one step at a time. else you need to have support to go fast....
