Karmic Koala

After registering in shipit before the release, i got the cd package about a week ago.  I first tried the live cd some 4 days ago on my laptop.  now, it is running in my desktop.  Ubuntu Karmic Kola has replaced Mandriva.  I am again shifting base after 2 and half years, and back to ubuntu after 4 years.

My first impressions were wow! the live cd was in itself cool.  Now the installed version is really superb.  It is more responsive than the previous Mandriva 2009 Spring.  Have to check out the rest of the things.  Now installing drivers for my Nvidia 5200 fx card.

Will check out the system soon and post back a more proper update.

Screen Resolution:  After installing the drivers for Nvidia card, i was able to go up from 1152x768 to 1280x1024 resolution.  Now the screen look like it has more space.

MP3 Playback: Next thing.  I went into check if it could play MP3.  I know that it wouldn't but just to make it sure, and it wasn't playing.  Totem told i need to install some gstream plugins, and mentioned 3 plugins.  I installed them still it was not playing them,  So i went up to the ubuntu software center -> Sound & Video and installed Gstreamer fluendo mpeg2 demux plugin and Gstreamer plugins for aac, xvid, mpeg2, faad.  Now Totem is playing MP3.  But Mandriva was playing these by default.

Watching Movie:  Once again i opened a Divx movie with Totem.  It played the movie, it was smooth.  The same movie would not play smoothly, you would have to enable drop frames mode to watch it with a very slightly noticable drag in Mandriva 2009 spring.  I can't say that it is playing the movie by default, may be because of the plugins which i installed to make mp3 work, is helping it here or...

DVD Playback:   This is something where i was a little disappointed.  First I tried with a region encoded dvd.  Which did not play with Totem, then an encrypted DVD, which also didn't play.  I was a little doubtful weather totem will be able to play them, so i installed Mplayer and VLC, even these two didn't play them, then i proceeded with a normal dvd without any encryption or Region Coding.  it played well, though the system was stammering a little at the begining of the movie , it improved as the movie went by.  Mandriva atleast played the region encoded movies by default.  I think i will have to install libdvdcss.

So i went into Ubuntu Software Center again and searched for it, and it was not there.  i searched for plf repositories for ubuntu and i found that i have to use it from medibuntu.  I tried adding that repository via UI, which was confusing.  So i had to go into the terminal for the first time.  i copied and pasted the command from the medibuntu site and it was added.

 sudo wget http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/$(lsb_release -cs).list --output-document=/etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list && sudo apt-get -q update && sudo apt-get --yes -q --allow-unauthenticated install medibuntu-keyring && sudo apt-get -q update

Then again i was searching for libdvdcss via UI, it was elusive to me.  So again i go to terminal and type the command to get it.

 sudo apt-get install libdvdcss2

Now Totem plays both encrypted dvd and region coded dvd.  and i have to say this, again.  This is better than Mandriva it did not skip here in ubuntu.  But totem did crash when going to full screen playing a region coded dvd.  Atleast VLC and MPlayer are not crashing playing these dvds.

Browsing:  See i am writing things from firefox here.  So it seems to be working.  I am not that much into Youtube and such, so i not worrying about flash, but i can see that it is not installed by default, and i saw it in repositories.  So if i ever require, it will install it.

So i think i have everything that i will ever need here, in this desktop, MP3, DVDs playback for me, openoffice for my dad to work, browsing for everyone.  That pretty much does it.  and that too, much more improved performance that mandriva.

I have to say this.  I am not doing a comparison between Mandriva 2009 Spring and Ubuntu Karmic Koala.  I am just saying the differences that i am noticing between these two versions.  May be the difference is due to Gnome in Ubuntu and KDE in Mandriva, or may be 2009 Spring was a updated version and Ubuntu was a clean install one or In ubuntu i have installed Nvidia driver and in Mandriva i did not.  Whatever it is, I don't care.

Everything me and my family need this desktop to do, is working.  May be i had to go thru something for sound and video, rest worked out of the box.  So, why is it i am hearing that i have to switch back to windows from some of my friends.  I don't know.  It is still not the Year of the Linux, but yes we are moving there.

The Machine:

Linux on Desktop

I have been using Linux since the days of mandrake 9. And i attempted a complete switch with the first Fedora Core, and achieved it with Fedora Core 5. But i still ran Windows, because of my work place. So once i bought a laptop, the first thing i did was to remove windows once and for all from the desktop pc in my house. I went with Mandriva 2008 for the home desktop, Initially people in my house, especially my dad was not comfortable with the switch, He has never used a computer other than the one at his workplace. He was accustomed to Internet Explorer and MS Outlook there.

The first switch was from Internet Explorer to Firefox. It seemed to him like a huge shock, that IE is not available. But gradually he started to use Fx. Now he is comfortable using it. Though he is finding it difficult to adjust to the tabbed interface, instead of switching from the taskbar.

Next it was Excel and Word. Two other things which he was using in his workplace. He was comfortable with Calc of OpenOffice, since he had used it in the home system back in 2007. But he did not know what to do with word. Then i introduced him to OpenOffice Writer. Now he is using it for his documents, he has never asked for any help in that.

Now he is pretty much using the desktop on his own. Even when i went on to update Mandriva2009 to Mandriva 2009.1 and it broke lightly he did not panic at having to look at a different screen, He had to Use IceWM instead of the default KDE4. He was at home. (Though i fixed it for him later).

The only complaint from him is that the computer is slow. The poor thing has only 256 MB of ram and it has been there for the past 5 years.

Yesterday, i happened to read one of the articles which i was pointed to in twitter. It was titled The Market has rejected Linux desktops...

I was left thinking, i have heard the line this is the year of linux desktop or something every year. But it is still not there.. What Jason Hiner points out seems to be right... But,..

Lets leave out Google Chrome OS out of this. I am not here to talk about it's linux base or anything related to Chrome.

There are four points, four simple points which he is pointing out, (as he says, there are many more, but lets tackle those four points here first.).

It's still too much of a pain:

i would like Mr Hiner to try to install the modem that i have in Windows XP, Vista or even in Windows 7. Let him give it a try. Windows is not the ultimate, and even mac will have to face it in some cases. It doesn't seem to recognize the wireless and webcam in my laptop. And i have given hope to make it work. Every OS has its own problems. The reason for this one is that, the vendors do not take up to provide drivers for the different os's or provide the specification so that someone can build a driver for it. So do not blame Linux for making pluggin devices a pain.

The divide and fail strategy:

It is not as you think. Linux is basically about choices, Each distro has its own audience. You just can't pull out Ubuntu Studio and use it as a desktop. It is made for audio / video professional. Well we do have Windows Home, Professional, Business, Ultimate, yada, yada, yada. nobody talks about, Whenever someone mentions Windows XP, 90% it is thought about as professional edition and not home or anyother flavour. But does a home user need Windows XP Professional. I don't think so. does my dad need a Windows XP professional. No Windows Home would do. but why do they try to push professional when trying to buy one, is anybody's guess. So it is again at the hands of vendors who have to be educated to allow them to help the customer to make a good decision. Or the users have to be educated. Try saying them that Home costs 3000 bucks and professional costs 7000 bucks, then they will try to know about different flavours of windows and get confused leading to divide and fail in windows too.

Not enough innovation:

I don't think i can talk about this as i don't much understand the things that are being talked here.

Businesses want someone to blame

Seems like he himself points out the answer. The leaders are afraid that the switch might cause a black mark or something of that sort on them if it backfires at some level. But i don't think anyone would make the shift on a large scale. They would make a phased shift. maybe some 5% of a department would switch to it and start using it. if all goes well, then everyone can shift.

Incompatible software?!! this is puzzling, Coz anyone planning for a switch would have considered this before making a switch. If this was the case, then i will have to say that it really is a mistake on the part of the IT leader for not researching and planning the shift properly.

As for pointing fingers to esacape, If you get support for your linux flavour from its corresponding vendor, unless you went for the free version, in which case you have to ask for support from your consultant, who helped you migrate, or the community.

All said,  There are some more too.  Like one of the users had said in the comments section,  There are not enough softwares to make it move mainstream.  His example was AutoCAD.  Well, this is also a point to consider.  Software makers say they are ready to put the resources to go ahead and get it working in Linux, if they can show the market (A manager in my workplace had said this to me).  And People who want to make the switch say they will when the software is available.  Well as he says it is same as chicken or egg problem.

Reg: Transport arranged for me on Wednesday night.

Dear xxxxxxxx,

Thanks for the Transportation which was arranged for me on Wednesday[11-11-2009] night. It was a comfortable journey home that i couldn't feel my right hand when i was sleeping.

I just had to walk slightly more than one KM before i could hire a auto, in which i had to share the driver seat with one another person other than the driver. And then i had to walk another half hour to home. It was a wonderful walk which i am having after a long time after college. Thanks for creating this wonderful opportunity for me to enjoy the midnight walk.

I came to know that you and a few other people were too worried that i didn't report to work in the morning and again were also worried that i did not call up even after evening to inform that i will not be coming to office. I woke up only by 3 in the evening, and Since i hadn't eaten for around more than 24 hours, i collapsed on the kitchen floor and slept on for another 2 hours before my mom came and woke me. Sorry i didn't inform you any time sooner that this.

It is heart warming to know that there are people who care about me even though i am a tiny little footnote on your epic organization. I don't know what i can do to repay the kindness and love that is being showered on me.

Regards
Anbarasan

PS: I know. I know, I am Guilty unless and until proven otherwise. You will have too many questions. Some of which i have tried to guess and answer below.

1. What happened?

I was asked to transfer the database from development machine to the staging machine and then recreate the setup over there, and start Fire Rules, inform and leave. Mr.xxxx got in touch with Miss/Mrs yyyyy and got permission for me to stay till later hours for that day. And Mr.zzzz gave me the number of travels and asked to call them to book a cab.

I was not able to determine the amount of time it would take to finish the job. So i did not book the cab in the evening itself. By 2130 hours i had a hunch that i should be able to finish the transfer by around 2330 hours and if i could push the machines to their top i could get the extraction and restoration and starting the process, finished by around 0030 hours and leave.

So i called up travels at around 2145 hours. They informed at around 2200 hours that all their drivers have gone, and asked me to contact another travels. So i called back to Mr.xxxx, who gave me the number of Mr.zzzz and asked me to contact him. Mr.zzzz was a bit slightly angry (i couldn't find a suitable word other than this. please bear with me for my poor english knowledge) with me for not booking the cab by 1930 hours itself. He asked me to contact the security in the reception and get some numbers and book a cab.

The guys at the reception were really helpful. I have to say this. coz when the power went out in the socket at around 2100 hours they got the electrician to fix it. and they got the guys to light up the place, when the person had switched off the lights when i had gone to the restroom. They looked around and got me two phone numbers, in both there was no answer.

It was 2230 hours by then, i decided it would be hopeless to worry about these things or to disturb you people so late, so i decided to work on the user manual which i had planned to do the next day. and finish the work and go home on my own.

2. Why didn't you inform us?

I was asked to call the travels and arrange it myself. What is the point in complaining, when i had failed to book the cab at 1930 hours itself....

3. Why didn't you book the cab by 1930 hours in the evening itself?

Like i said i was not able to estimate the time required for me to finish the work. So i delayed the booking of the cab.

4. Why weren't you able to estimate the time required?

The network was too fast, the machine was too responsive and i was incompetent to make the judgement...

Ok, Before any of you could start ranting on the comments, I am writing this here, because i did not want to write to them. I just want to rant somewhere, so i am writing it here. Nothing is gonna change because i am going to complain. I have been here quiet sometime to know that.

farewell my ROKR

My phone is atlast about to die. It is down, and doesn't work on battery or with a sim inserted. It was awful. What that city could do to you. When i took it to the service center, after a 2 day analysis they said that the whole internal board has to be replaced and it would cost aroun 6.5 k and the same bought new costs 7k. But it was too much, i had retire the device. It has been of great service to me, and i can never forget that extension of my arm..... To buy another piece of the same would not be proper. Until something worthy of your successor arrives, i will have to make do with some other device. Am looking around, but everything is out of my budget. Ever the DEXT is around 35K which i am not in a position to buy. (it is not a question of affordability, it is about the question of value for money).

Microsoft Silverlight & Linux.......

It has been a long time since i wrote. Well it has been really a long time, stuck in the worst city Bangalore, then moving back. Being in there in certain things. Having a fifteen minutes of fame. Everything was there. I did miss writing here in blogger. Though there was twitter to write to, it is not fun. But a great way to say out ideas short and sweet.

Well, after a long time, and trying to figure a way out to make Linux my main os at work, i succeded last week... Yes! DimensioN Studio 2.4 started to work in linux, it took a little hard work to figure out which files were missing. With a little more help from winetricks, i did get it to work properly via wine. It was so much fun doing it. I was just happy that i need not have to move into windows anymore.

Then i just thought of giving the new browser based cloud product of ours a try from linux. But this darn Microsoft agains comes into frustrate me. Silverlight doesn't seem to work with linux. and every attempt to make the new product work with Mono Moonlight also failed. It was frustrating to think that i have to login back to windows just to work with something which is browser based. This is not fair.....

Talk about microsoft and fairness, what am i talking? So i had to give the error messages and i was able to only hope that either mono team will release Moonlight 2.0 soon and it would be compatible with Silverlight 3.0, or our engineering team will make sure it will make changes to accomodate the moonlight too. But who knows....

The suddenly today when we were just discussing things, suddenly it turned towards the new product and linux compatibility. And My interviewer asked me why don't you try with wine or whisky and run the windows version of browser and try to make it work. This was a nice idea. Firefox 3.5.3 was up in 5 minutes, but then again Silverlight decided to play bad. Everything i tried was in vain. Nothing worked. Now i have others in the race. It's got to be me or the Engineering who should find a way out.... But if others find, that is also fine.

Why?! Why is it that at everyturn a new obstacle arises......

Securing your DimensioN Portal - enabling https

I had to do this for one of the clients. This is the procedure which i followed. It was a real headache. Got into some difficulties and then found out things and stuff. I am writing down the exact procedure which i had followed, during development time, and during the setting up of the server with a thawte certificate, and enable SSL and HTTPS. Hope this helps someone.

DimensioN is based on JBoss, So SSL on JBoss should also be the same, but i can't guarantee

To Enable SSL in DimensioN.

For development
Step 1: keytool -genkey -alias [alias name] -keypass [password] -keyalg RSA -keystore [keystore name]

to get ssl certificate from issuing authorities.

Perform the steps to generate the key , CSR and install SSL certificate. (ref:1)

STEP 1 : keytool -genkey -keyalg RSA - alias [alias name] -keystore [keystore name] (use the password same as alias.)
STEP 2 : keytool -list -keystore [keystore name]
STEP 3 : keytool -certreq -alias [alias name] -keyalg RSA -file certreq.csr -keystore [keystore name]
STEP 4 : keytool -import -alias [alias name] -trustcacerts -file [downloaded certificate name] -keystore [keystore name]

for eg:
STEP 1 : keytool -genkey -keyalg RSA - alias tomcat -keystore dimension.keystore (use the password same as alias.)
STEP 2 : keytool -list -keystore dimension.keystore
STEP 3 : keytool -certreq -alias tomcat -keyalg RSA -file certreq.csr -keystore dimension.keystore
STEP 4 : keytool -import -alias tomcat -trustcacerts -file mysignedcert.crt -keystore dimension.keystore

Use the CSR file which is generated after step 3 to apply for the SSL certificate from the concerned authorities. apply step 4 with the file which you get back from the signing authority.

If after doing this procedure, if you still get the error that is a self signed certificate, then the certificate you have downloaded is not in PKCS#7 format.(ref:3) you will have to create a chain certificate from the one which you have. The procedure to follow in windows is as follows.(ref:2)

1. Double click on the .crt file, which you had downloaded.
2. Click on the Details Tab at the top
3. Click on 'Copy to file'
4. Click 'Next'
5. Tick the third option: "Cryptographic Message Syntax Standard - PKCS#7 Certificates (.P7B)".
also tick "Include all certificates in the certification path if possible"
6. Click 'Next'
7. Select a file name or browse to a path where you'd like to save this chained certificate.
8. Click 'Next'
9. Click 'Finish'
10. Your export should be successful, then click 'OK'.

configuration in DimensioN:

Step 1 : copy the generated keystore to [DimensioN_Server_install_Directory]\DimensionServer\server\default\conf

Step 2 : open server.xml file in [DimensioN_Server_install_Directory]\DimensionServer\server\default\deploy\jbossweb-tomcat50.sar

Step 3 : find the below section in that file.

<! - - < port="8443" address="${jboss.bind.address}" maxthreads="100"
minsparethreads="5" maxsparethreads="15" scheme="https" secure="true"
clientauth="false" keystorefile="${jboss.server.home.dir}/conf/chap8.keystore"
keystorepass="rmi+ssl" sslprotocol = "TLS"> - - >

remove the comments by removing the < ! - - and -- > from the beginning and end of the section.
give the keystore name in the line
keystoreFile="${jboss.server.home.dir}/conf/[keystore name]"
give the keystore password in the line
keystorePass="[keystore password]"

Step 4 : find the below section in that file

< Connector port="6666" address="${jboss.bind.address}"
maxThreads="150" maxHttpHeaderSize="8192"
minSpareThreads="25" maxSpareThreads="75"
enableLookups="false" redirectPort="8443" acceptCount="100"
connectionTimeout="20000" disableUploadTimeout="true" compression="on"
compressableMimeType="text/csv"/ >

comment out this section by adding < ! - - and - - > at the beginning and end of the section respectively.

Step 5 : Start the DimensioN server. now you should be able to access it via the url https:\\localhost:8443.
you can even set the connector port to 443, so that you can call the url as https:\\localhost.

Number 2

It was a long time since i had gone into a quiz competition. And what a way it went, the same way i always do. With the buzzer at the death, and a last minute, last question mad rush, with hearts pumping up high, and many at the edge of the seats. Would you risk everything you have got. Will the rest leave it for the tied two to fight it out.

I am, no 2. the 1 who drives no 1 to the edge.

The Best day.....

it was different this year. May be one of the best, i am wrong, the most best day i had ever had. Though it did brought back some painful memories, which i am still trying to forget, it was still wonderful. I went to office for the class, then to my Child's house for lunch, where i also watched the movie Gangster, and then went back to office, did some work and played a good TT. Wonderful. It was not as wonderful or fantastic as some of the many days i had, but it was really a wonderful day, when i was taken back in time, to delhi and back to school days. It was wonderful. I will never forget this day.

Multilevel Menus - ddlevelsmenu

Well, last time i had written that i was supposed to convert a menu from mouseover functionality to onclick. Somehow i had done it, to the satisfaction of whoever i had shown. I don't know for whom i am doing this, but now i am happy.

The approach was same as everyother attempt at reading code. i have uploaded the js file which i had edited to achieve the desire effect. which you can take it from here. I thought it might be helpful to someone. The original script can be obtained from here (ddlevelsmenu). It works on mouse over, which i had converted to on click. This is a old version of the file that exist over there in their site, just make the same changes over there, to convert it into onclick.

I had commented whatever i had done which might help someone. If there are any unusual or wrong ways, just lemme know, so i can correct it.

The menu still lacks the ability to be on screen, when the mouse moves out of the menu. But it still has made the product a little more usable. That, is what is important. May be another day, another time, after learning Java Script i will make changes to overcome that problem tooo. or may be another version where i can combine both the functionalities with the change of a parameter or something.......

Mount an iso image

After all these years of using Linux, atlast i got it to work, i don't know what i was doing wrong all these years. (though i did get it to work one time before, that was because of the help recieved from one another colleague of mine. But this time, it is my effort. I know i am going bonkers over a simple command, but you gotta celebrate every victory, and ponder over ever defeat...

The command i used

mount -o loop -t iso9660 filename.iso /mnt/iso

Me and Dynamic Multilevel Drop Down Menus......

You crib about something, curse the person (even in front of them) who designed / programmed something, suggest some improvements that could make it better, which that person is not able to do because of some constraints, and suddenly like a thunder lightning bolt out of the blue on a clear dark night sky, you get a chance to change it, to make it look better, to perfect it...... and you did not have the required skills to do. How it would feel :( ....

That is what, the situation i am in..... I had been cursing about the drop down menus implemented in my company's product. I don't know about the clients, but i certainly do criticize each everything which i feel is not worth to be there or in that way... Suddenly, the CEO calls and asked me yesterday can you do it. I was dumbstruck for a moment. Though i do not have the basic skills required ( i don't know javascript or even what css meant till yesterday), I accepted the work, because i am being given a chance to make something better than what it was previously. But how am i going to proceed.....

With the same belief with which i stepped into this company to work, i started off. i read the file a little, i could n't understand much, i took a few help from my Child, and then got off to some start, then did some small settings changes and made it a little workable, but it was still way off the mark. It was a work around to make people a little happy.

The task given was to convert the drop down menus from becoming active on mouseover, and getting deactivated on mouseout, it should be made to work on onclick event. I nearly achieved that, but yet again there was many a problem. Now i stand at the brink of the first level victory, it is nearly ready, yet it is not perfect, it does not finish off as the required. To be correct, it does not finish off at all. It does appear on mouse click, it holds even on mouse out, but it does not disappear on mouse click outisde the menu.....

Kino, KdenLive, OpenVideo Editior Vs M****S*** Windoze Movie Maker

After all these years of moving away from windows at every possible opportunity, last week, i had go back to windows. Video Editing is still not easy for a novice, or even to a slightly average user. (maybe i am wrong, i am writing what i faced).

We had shot some videos during the new year celebration in our office, and i was given the job of editing the video, add some subtitles, some title slides here and there, and such. I decided to give a try once more on linux. The last time i tried was in December of 2006, using LiVES on a Fedora Core 6 System, but i couldn't spend time back then.. This time i set up Kino, KdenLive, OpenMovieEditor on my Laptop which was running mandriva 2009. I did not have to time to compile and set things up, else i could have even given a try for cinelerra, about which i heard some great things. For audio, i went with Audacity which i feel is the best.

Kino was cool. I just could understand what is what, but when trying to use it, i had trouble at exporting. something was not right, and system kept hanging or it would end up doing the wrong thing,(i know, kino just does what i ask it do, so i can't put the blame on kino). KdenLive was also nice, the interface was interesting, and certain things were really nice, (i did not take time to note things down). But i ran into problem soon(may be i was ignorant to search the menus or google it). and Open Movie Editor just kinda freaked me out. ok i am not saying anything bad, but at the state that i was, i just kinda threw me out....

Since i was pressed for time, i had boot back to windows ( windows gets a point ), start up windows movie maker and start doing things. I can't say Windows Movie Maker is the most coolest editor ever, i have seen sonic something when i was in college and some other stuff, which were really wonderful. Coming back, i am using the software nearly after 5 years, the last time i used it was to set up a video of all the still pictures which we shot during our Karnataka tour with a background music, so i can say i was not much of an expert at movie maker too. But i was able to start off immediately and proceed and finish the job in a day.

May be the fact that i have seen people use Movie Maker, may have unknowingly made me know that these things are there, and how to do those things and stuff.

I will have to live with it for some time, but i will have to find something or do something, so that i can and the others whom i have created interest in and those whom i have converted to linux can do video editing. I wish i could it sooner, or atleast some more time to check out any of the above mentioned tools.

BloGTK

lately i have been on the lookout for an off line blog writing software on Linux. On windows, in office i had been using the Live writer (i know that is a MS product, still that is great), and now the scribe fire firefox plugin.

The Scribe Fire plugin is good, but somehow i am not so very comfortable with it. with every new version released, something is throwing me off, like holding the previous blog in the editor area, and stuff like that. Other than that it is great. But i want something outside of the web browser, on the desktop. (Again don't start, i know i am some one who lives on the internet, but i too need to do take a break and do something different). So had been searching a lot, and came across gnome-blog, blogtk, kblog. I needed something out of these K's and G's. It is boring to say i use Kthis Kthat and ....., So i zeroed in on BloGTK. The version which is installed on my home computer is 1.1, i have to check what i have got in my laptop in office.

It looks nice. I love the icon of BloGTK and their web site. Ok, though bit not easy to find info. I've been trying to configure it for blogger, for the past 3 hours then i came across a link which finally got me working, it is here...

In the Server URL textbox in the Accounts and Preferences window, enter the url as http://www.blogger.com/api/RPC2, the rest of the things are self explanatory. Fill in the rest of the details, and you are ready to go. Go to file --> connect, then you can start writing.

But i was not able to enter the Title for my blog, i tried to see if i had done anything wrong, Googled for it, but in vain. If i can find something for this title, i think i can get used to it. Though you can't say it to be user friendly (it slightly requires you to understand and use HTML), still it should do the necessary for me. But till i find out how to enter the title and solution to any other problem which i might face, i will be logging in to blogger directly and then posting.

and just in case you end up with a blank BloGTK.conf file in /home//.BloGTK, which makes BloGTK to crash everytime (which happened to me, i un-installed and then reinstalled), i am posting my .BloGTK configuration, which might be of some use....
